When I’m 64

My mother never liked to talk about her age, but I can’t help thinking about her today. A year before her death in 2007 we talked about and watched the stories about Paul McCartney turning 64. We got on the subject about the song that was playing in the background of the news stories, the one he wrote and recorded with the Beatles for his father titled  “When I’m Sixty-Four”. I joked that when she turned 64 I would play that song for her on her birthday. Today if my mother was still alive, she would have been turning 64. So here to my mother and anyone else who is turning 64 today. I wish everyone a very happy birthday and to share this song with you.

Could You Survive Without the Internet?

Really could anyone these days spend a whole week, day, or month without the internet? I did this past weekend. I decided to challenge myself to spend the whole weekend  not using a computer, or the internet or cell. I stuck with my old staples I used to do way before even owning the computer or being on the Internet.

I went back to pencil and paper to draw, read a lot, listened to old mix tapes, CDs, and dusted off my SNES. Though if my Atari 2600 & NES was still in working order I would have setup those up too. Plus I  getting to go out side for a walk without taking my phone with me, was a great feeling. It was great taking the weekend to become disconnected from the “very connected world” I live & work in. Since the experiment went so well I hope to become more disconnected  in every weekend I am not working…I like the idea of getting back to basics.

Birthday

So in the middle of the month it was the one day of the year where I celebrate my birth. Gone are the years I really enjoy birthday parties. Why? I’m just tired of them, as I’ve been having parties since I was 1. This year I took a time out and enjoy a simple day of catching up on reading, and just having a ME day, which I totally enjoyed. Though I missed being around friends and family on my day of birth I think I will spend next years birthday doing an all day ME day followed by an evening of being around the people who matter the most to me.
