Today is Blog Action Day. It happens every year on Oct. 15, it’s an event that unites bloggers worldwide, to spread the word about a particular issue. This year’s it’s about Climate Change.
Climate Change is part of Global Warming and it’s defiantly effecting our environment. They are many ways you can do your part and help change our environment. Just some of them are:
The list goes on what you can do to help with the environment, I do everything I can like recycling, telecommuting, composting, saving rain water to use to water the plants, use cfls, have a fuel-efficient car, eat only organic & locally grown veggies, using, Energy Star products, shutdown my computer or other appliances when they are not in use, keeping the heat turn down or not using heating/AC at all. (don’t mind wearing a hoodie around the house or keeping the windows open in the spring, fall or winter). etc.
You don’t have to do everything I do or mentioned here, but if everyone just did a little something like using CFL light bulbs, carpool or even recycle, it would help out in a big way.
Blog Action Day is an annual event that unites the world’s bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day on their own blogs with the aim of sparking discussion around an issue of global importance. Blog Action Day 2009 will be the largest-ever social change event on the web. One day. One issue. Thousands of voices.
Every Year I turn my website pink in October, Why? It’s to bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer, and raise money for research. For more information about the event check out the Pink for October website.
As most know I’ve been trying to adapt to healthier a lifestyle to becoming a vegetarian. It’s been a year in the making, but I’m still continuing to reach my goals. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs from having surgery last year to losing focus, but I’ve manged to get back on track and it’s paying off. Since starting back in early 2008 I’ve managed to eat mostly only organic foods and give up processed foods, trans fats foods, caffeine, salt, and any food or drinks with artificial sweeteners.
Since June I’ve been solely relaying on vegetables, soy products, beans, grains, etc. as a source of protein, fiber, and nutrients. From that I feel great and plus have tons more energy than I did before. I’m still trying to get more active by doing yoga, running/walking/hiking to mountain biking as well. Don’t get to do those things a lot, but I’m working toward trying to do more.
It’s been a journey, but one in the end will make me feel better, hopefully live longer and reduce my chances of getting any serious medical conditions that I could face as I get older, since I have a lot that run in my family.
“Arrr, tis’ another year talkin’ like a pirate Aye, me parrot concurs.”
September 19 is the official Talk like Pirate day, which I have followed for the last couple of years. Tomorrow will be like no other. i’ll be gatherin’ with me mates, listenin’ t’ pirate themed music and ha’in’ fun. I bid everyone a Happy Pirate day ARRRRR!
Fall is slowly coming and I love it. Cool weather at night to crisp fall mornings…..So wanting the leaves to change, so I can take a trip into the mountains to capture video and photos of the leaves. Love this time of year. Work has been crazy for me lately as well and I’ve been working non-stop along with pulling all-nighters. Working on a lot of personal projects to a few freelance projects as well. Love being busy like that though. I’ve started back writing over at my Lockergnome blog and hopefully I will be able to start doing a couple of tech articles every week. I hope to be bringing back my podcast again too. Lot’s going on in my world and I’m grateful for all the great opportunities too.
Ever since I was a kid I have always enjoyed Halloween and it has been one of my favorite holidays of the year, besides Christmas. When I was 4 or 5 my mom started a tradition that would last until the day she died in 2007. Every Halloween, Birthday/Valentines Day ( Since I was born on that day), Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, 4th of July and even St. Patty’s Day she would always decorate the house, and make some type of goodies. Although the two biggest holidays she decorated the most for was Christmas and Halloween. She would always make lots of treats for both holidays and made our home a scary haunted place for Halloween or a Winter wonderland for Christmas. I love Christmas, but Halloween was always my favorite time of the year, because it was the start of fall with the temps staying mildly warm in the day and crisp and cool at night. Plus the start of getting to go to the fairs, carnivals, the haunted houses, trails, woods, etc. Most importantly was that time of year, where I could dress up like anything from being spiderman to being a vampire as a kid. I always tend to dress up as sci-fi characters or scary creatures than dressing up as what normal little girls dressed up as ( princesses, cheerleaders, fairies, etc.).
Another favorite memory of Halloween was having our house transformed into a haunted house. Every year my parents decorated our house to be super scary. We were featured a couple of years in the local paper and news stations. Plus the halloween parties we use to have were really to “die for” my mom always made the best unique treats from her “Vampire Lady fingers to Ice eyeballs to her Snake and Mummy sandwiches to her dripping blood ( not real just colored corn syrup. ) off of the punch cups.
After my parents death in 2007 Halloween has never been the same. I’ve tried to decorated my house and even use the same decorations, but their spirit of the season is gone, but not forgotten. Since their deaths I’ve had to come up with my own traditions to make Halloween as fun as it once was.
Here is a slide show of just some of the treats and decorations my parents did for Halloween every year, some of the characters I was for Halloween growing up and how I still use my parents decorations for halloween.
After sending these up to flickr, I thought it was neat that someone featured them on their website.
