Healthy Eating Update

July 25, 2009 @ 3:11 pm | by spxds

It’s been a year or so and I’m still continuing on with my healthy eating regiment. I’m trying to eat mostly all vegetarian  meals these days too. As most will remember I had to go back to eating some meat, due to not getting enough protein in my diet. Beans, Soy products, and supplements  were not working for me.

I try to eat any meals with meat as little as possible, though I wish I could find an alternative to get enough protein so I could be completely on a vegetarian diet.  I also eat mostly all organic or home grown fruits, and veggies these days too. I have to say I feel much better and have a lot of energy  too. I also do a lot of cooking at home these days too, rather than going out to eat, since it’s healthier for me to fix my favorite take out dishes. However, I still go out sometimes too hehehe. I also try to get to Places like Trader Joes, Earth Fare, or Whole foods to buy groceries and try my best to buy very little from our local chain stores.

I’ve also have switched from drinking 2 or three sodas a day to only  1 soda a day  with no caffeine. Plus I’m now Interested in drinking  different teas other than  regular “sweet tea”. Plus once in a while I  will have my fav coffee from Starbucks or the  Local place.   Which is a  White mocha or Vanilla Latte  or  White Mocha Frapp,( depends on my mood or season) that is a treat just once in a while or if I need the caffeine if I’m pulling an all nighter for work.

Plus I’m trying to be more active these days from riding my mountain bike to walking ever chance I get. All in all this  healthy living for me is making me feel a lot better than before. Now I wish I started this way of living a long time ago.

Social Media

July 21, 2009 @ 6:01 pm | by spxds

I use to be part of almost every social site that is currently popular today  like Facebook, Myspace, Virb, Vox, Twitter, etc.  In recent years I’ve scaled back a lot, since I really never used those sites anymore except for Twitter. Just recently I revived my Facebook account just because it has been the best way to keep in touch with close family and friends. I’m not over crazy using Facebook  like some are, I hardly even update it much at all. I’m mostly on Twitter, Im and blogging which is about it for my activity online these days. However, I do track my music via Last.fm and Pandora or my pictures with Flickr.

Most days I do a lot of work with Social Media, but it mostly for clients and business. These days, I’m on the computer  mostly for business doing web design/building, doing marketing, emailing, editing photos, drawing or tech support for  web/server admin.

Sand in My Shoes

July 20, 2009 @ 8:35 am | by spxds

On Saturday we returned home after a long weeks stay at the beach. Most of our trip we used using a golf cart as transportation, since were we stayed was like a community, and the mode transportation there  is golf carts or bikes, unless you actually venture out in MB.

We did a lot of walking with morning walks/jogs on the beach to walking in the evening at some of the shopping places in Myrtle.  All in all we had a great trip and had loads of fun. I’m very relaxed, and rested now, which I’m ready to attack the week.

Still Spinning Around

June 23, 2009 @ 3:50 pm | by spxds

I’m still around, but have been doing a lot lately. Just this past week it had was two years since the “wreck” So instead of staying home T and I traveled to visit some of my dad’s family, since that’s the only closest family I have now. Most of my mom’s family is scattered throughout the US. It’s hard to take short trips to go visit them, since most now are living on or near the west coast or the middle of the US.

Ok enough backlog lol….I got to visit with some family I have not seen in about a year, which was good. While visiting with my family, T and I was able to get out and do a little shopping too.

Both of us picked up a new pair of Crocs at the Crocs’ outlet store, I got some chocolate goodies from Harry and David and even on the way home we stopped by Streets of SouthPoint to check out the Kid Robot Toys that Urban Outfitters had and of course the Apple Store too.

Then after getting home Thursday we decided to head up to the camper for the weekend. We left friday after T’s Dr. Appt.  to head to the camper. I had a great time disconnecting since there was no cell, landline or Internet service around the campground.  Then on saturday after breakfast we headed out to Mount Mitchell to walk/hike to the top to see the new tower. Once we got parked the weather changed from almost 90 to 60 with overcast skies. Plus the wind was blowing about 30MPH. A little chilly by the time we got to the top.

Despite it being  the two year anniversary and Fathers day weekend, I was able to have fun and get my mind off of things.

07/25/09/ Update:  Was not notify, which is super #FAIL for the system. Anyhow, I had stumbled across this article to find the guy had made an appeal for a lesser sentence. You can read the whole story about what happen that night here. Good thing the Judge denied the guys appeal…

Upgraded

June 10, 2009 @ 11:09 pm | by spxds

So I just upgraded the blog to 2.8 of Wordpress, which was simple enough to do. I hope I can finally finish and launch the new long awaited design for the blog. It’s been a long time coming.

Weird Sleeping

May 23, 2009 @ 3:18 am | by spxds

Lately, for me I’ve been on a weird sleeping schedule. I’m either on GMT or PST time zone. Which if I were to fly to either to the West Coast or to London I would not have much jet lag at all, which is good I guess. I have always been a night owl anyhow, and feel more “alive & focused” at night. Plus lately I have been working on a couple of time sensitive projects, which I worked on a lot during the early morning hours. I have found working “3rd shift” helps when working on projects with tight deadlines, since during that time of the day it’s less distraction for me.

Another Adventure & How Time Flies By

May 14, 2009 @ 2:57 pm | by spxds

This week is flying past. Sunday was Mother’s day and this was the 2nd year without my Mom. All holidays are hard to get through, but I’m finding that I focus on having fun on Holidays helps me get through the day. This Mother’s day was like no other Adventure Sunday for us. We stopped by my parents grave then went onward to have a fun filled evening in Charlotte. We went to a few places around Pineville and Charlotte and ended up in Uptown Charlotte at Trader Joe’s picking up a few things and then heading off to our new favorite French Bakery Amelies’s in NoDa for another late night snack. T had the Portabella Mushroom & leek Tartines and I had a buttered croissant. I also got one of their gourmet cherry sodas. The food and soda was excellent. Before that night I had never heard of Sprecher sodas, but after doing some research they are a local brewery in WI and they also make a wide selection of sodas and beers. Just wish they had a local retailer that sold their sodas in NC. Love to ditch “regular” sodas for those. A lot better than traditional sodas as well them not having any caffeine either.

All and all we had a great time and can’t wait till this Sunday’s adventure night.

Adventure Weekends

May 6, 2009 @ 3:42 am | by spxds

I’m having a great week so far, but the weekend was pretty adventurous. On Sunday,Tracy and I went as usual to her dad’s house for supper. After dinner instead of heading home we decided to head to a few places in SC then got an idea to go to Charlotte to go to a few places too. Before we left Charlotte, we wanted to stopped by Amelie’s to have a late night dessert., since they are now open 24/7. I had heard a lot of good things about the French bakery and wanted to try some of their pastries. We got the Apple and Blueberry turnovers, which were really good. We both really want to go back next time we’re in Charlotte to try some of their soups or sandwiches.

Most all of the places that I knew of that stayed open late or even 24/7 are no longer in business, so it’s nice to find another place that does. So many times we have been to Charlotte for events( concerts, musicals, movies, etc) that got out late ( after 10pm) and knew of no place around that was still open to grab a snack or a place that served gourmet types of coffees either. So I’m glad to find something that is open late nights in Charlotte again.

All and All we had a great evening, we got home pretty late, but had lots of fun. I always enjoy our Sunday adventures.
